Railway station complex "Nurly Zhol" is presented in the nomination "Transport" of the World Architecture Festival WAF-2017, also called architectural "Oscar".
The authors of the development - the architectural bureau Tabanlıoğlu Architects - went through a rigorous selection to get into the shortlist of nominees of the prestigious award.
In addition to the new station complex of Astana, there are 13 infrastructure facilities in the nomination, such as the Värtaterminalen ferry terminal, Tom Bradley International Terminal, Salvador Bahia Metro, Salerno Maritime Terminal and so on.
The railway station "Nurly Zhol" has no analogues in the CIS countries and is one of the modern railway stations built recently in the world.
Its capacity is up to 35 thousand passengers per day.
A team of international experts in the design of the new station adopted design solutions that allowed the building to be placed on the concourse, above the railway tracks.
This is a kind of know-how of the modern way of building. "Railway-bridge" almost everywhere came to replace "shore" type station due to greater efficiency, compactness, more rational use of space.
"The station complex impresses with its scale. It is built according to the latest modern standards. The system of rainwater harvesting and reuse has been organized for the cleaning of facades and irrigation of the adjacent territory. Ground heat exchangers are installed, a multi-zone air conditioning system is provided that distributes cold and heat. As a result, significant energy savings are achieved, " said Deputy Director of the railway station "Nurly Zhol" N. Amanzholov.
The WAF is held annually and is considered the main prize among professional architects and interior designers. Winners and finalists will gain worldwide fame and a lot of preferences.
The ceremony of WAF-2017 awards will be held on November 15-17 in Berlin.
